Andy & Sharon look forward to welcoming you to your home away from home in the Scottish Highlands

Dava School was built in 1875 and opened as a school on the 9th November 1877; having a large single classroom, playground and Head Masters quarters, it was a typical rural school of the time. The school provided primary education for children residing in the area in preparing them for higher level schooling in Grantown-on-Spey.

After the school closed in 1972, the previous owner made changes through extending the property to convert it to a family home; a second extension and double garage was subsequently added in the early 1990’s.

Since we took ownership of the School House in December 2013, we have decorated and modified the original master’s quarters into our home and lovingly restored the School Room back to the original ‘school room feel’. The last master’s desk and one of the children’s bench have been restored and take centre stage in the School Room.

We took the decision to convert the extension into guest accommodation; the Red Squirrel suite offers a private lounge, spacious double bedroom and en-suite shower room all tastefully, but simplistically, furnished with locally sourced furnishings and artwork.

The Red Squirrel Suite is the first of three rooms with the second to be converted in the very near future.

The School Room

This bright and beautiful dual aspect 44 m² room is the breakfast room and guest lounge where guests can enjoy breakfast, light supper, evening meal or just relax in front of the wood burner with a wee dram. Overlooking Dava Moor, the afternoon sunset and soft evening light adds to the already peaceful ambience.

After our guests depart, The School Room, in association with our other business, Cairngorm Leaf & Bean, will host a coffee lounge for customers to enjoy home-baked cakes and our menu of freshly ground Highland roasted coffees, Scottish crafted hot chocolates and teas

Workshops, exhibitions featuring local artists, book clubs, group coffee mornings and a meeting venue can also be hosted in this historic room with locally produced sandwiches, cakes and refreshments being available – contact us for further details.
